At a July press conference the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said 109 major projects under the 15th Five-Year Plan are accelerating. New starts this year include a Three Gorges waterway new channel, Guangzhou’s new airport and the Shangbaishi water-conservancy hub in Fujian. Preparatory work on the east–west sections of the new Tibet railway and the Dujiangyan irrigation modernization in Sichuan is being fast-tracked, with aims to commence construction soon and deliver tangible on-site progress.
