China stocks closed higher on Wednesday, Aug. 5: Shanghai Composite closed up 56.15 points (1.47%) at 3,878.43; Shenzhen Composite closed up 258.49 points (1.86%) at 14,144.20; CSI 300 closed up 57.22 points (1.24%) at 4,658.15; ChiNext closed up 46.18 points (1.32%) at 3,535.14; Sci-Tech Innovation 50 Index closed up 77.31 points (4.78%) at 1,693.67.

Iran's foreign ministry said Iran and Oman are continuing negotiations to secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, focusing on delineating safe transit lanes. Foreign ministry spokesman Baghaei told Iranian state TV the talks have received "positive" assessments on both technical and political levels. Iran said it is working to establish the mechanisms needed to manage shipping in the strait.
