Russian media reported on May 5 that a car bomb exploded on May 4 in a village outside Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk region. Vladimir Tkachuk, general manager of the Ural drone plant, was seriously wounded and taken to intensive care; his driver and bodyguard was killed. Footage showed the Mercedes carrying Tkachuk burned out. Authorities have opened a criminal investigation. TASS said the Ural drone plant produces a drone that has been widely used by Russia in the conflict with Ukraine.

Esmail Kowsari, a member of Iran's parliamentary National Security Committee, told state broadcaster IRIB that President Trump’s approach to negotiations with Iran is 'contradictory and unreliable.' Kowsari said Trump has claimed 75 times that the Strait of Hormuz is open though it is not, has said 'Iran will fail' 106 times, and has referred to an imminent agreement with Tehran 88 times. Trump said on Tuesday night the US and Iran could reach a deal within hours; Iran has repeatedly denied direct talks with Washington.
