Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index (HSI) closed up 62.90 points (+0.24%) at 25,915.82 on Wednesday, Aug 5. The Hang Seng TECH Index rose 47.46 points (+0.97%) to 4,933.07. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI) gained 29.47 points (+0.34%) to 8,603.73. The Red Chip Index advanced 12.74 points (+0.31%) to 4,158.15.

YONHAP reported on Aug 4 that Chinese-made electric vehicles accounted for 35% of EVs newly registered in South Korea in 1H 2026. The Korea Automobile Mobility Industry Association’s analysis showed nearly 70,000 China-made EV registrations from Jan–Jun, up 178.7% YoY. The association said the influx could accelerate EV adoption and widen consumer choice but may raise competitive pressure on domestic automakers and along the industry supply chain.
