Iran deputy foreign minister Gharibabadi said on the 5th the United States
contacted Tehran 4–5 days after a new round of conflict began, seeking to
resolve the issue through negotiations. He said arrangements for the Strait of
Hormuz should be negotiated only between Iran and Oman and that Iran will not
accept external involvement. Under the new arrangements, existing temporary
transit lanes in the strait will be closed and a substantial share of vessel
transits will in future pass through Iranian territorial waters.
