Argentina's foreign minister Pablo Kierno said on the 5th that Argentina's
ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Raimondi, will shortly "return home on leave." The
comment followed Brazil's foreign minister summoning Raimondi and announcing the
Brazilian government had downgraded bilateral relations to the chargé d'affaires
level and asked him to return to Argentina. The diplomatic dispute follows
President Javier Milei's July 25 criticism of President Lula at a Liberal Party
national congress in São Paulo and Milei's protest over a Brazilian Supreme
Court judge blocking his visit to jailed ex‑president Jair Bolsonaro; Brazil
recalled its ambassador to Argentina the next day in protest.
