Honda has outsourced development of a new model project to Tata Technologies,
people familiar with the matter said. It is the first time Honda has
commissioned a complete vehicle platform from an Indian engineering services
firm; the move is intended to reduce development costs. The platform is expected
to support multiple models and be configurable for internal-combustion, hybrid
and battery-electric powertrains. Historically, Honda kept core vehicle-platform
development in-house or within its long-standing supplier network.
