Elisabeth Kendall, head of Girton College, Cambridge and Middle East expert,
said Thursday’s Houthi missile and drone strike on government military targets
in Yemen — the first of its kind in years — killed at least 30 government
soldiers and wounded 15 and is likely to push the conflict into a wider war. She
said the 2022 ceasefire has effectively expired, recent troop movements and
clashes show all warning signs of escalation, and that the internationally
recognized government’s forces are more unified after January’s fighting and
subsequent integration efforts.
