South Korean and Swedish nuclear regulators will meet Monday in Seoul to discuss
policy and regulatory issues including high-level radioactive waste (HLW)
disposal and small modular reactors (SMRs), YONHAP reports. The meeting is part
of cooperation under a 2014 memorandum of understanding. Sweden, a leader in HLW
disposal technology, is the second country after Finland to build a deep
geological repository. South Korea's nuclear regulator said it plans to use the
collaboration to strengthen oversight capacity for HLW disposal facilities.
