Meta Platforms (META.O) released Muse Glimmer, an open-source agent model much
smaller than leading AI systems and designed to run on a single‑GPU Mac or PC to
support on-device agent tasks. The rollout comes as the company seeks to
reassert itself in the high‑risk AI race after last year’s creation of an
expensive superintelligence team. Zuckerberg said foreign labs currently hold
advantages because US labs face additional training‑data restrictions and argued
US policy must reduce those extra frictions if US open‑source models are to lead
long term. He added Meta will soon resume releasing some open‑source models.
