A fresh heatwave will sweep drought-hit Europe this week, raising wildfire risk, threatening crops and further depleting already record-low river levels. The heat could block moisture-bearing clouds and hinder replenishment of major waterways — the Rhine, Po and Danube — whose low flows have already disrupted navigation and power generation.
