Industry and EIA sources say only the mining EIA is being advanced; the supporting concentrator and tailings storage require separate EIA amendment because of the mineral-type change, and there are no public filings yet—those amendments remain a material hurdle to full resumption. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s EIA credit platform shows the project name changed from “ceramic clay (including lithium) mine” to “lithium mine” and the project category shifted from 08--012 (chemical mineral/non-metallic mining) to 07--010 (common non-ferrous/precious/rare and rare-earth metals mining). A legal source said the change from non-metallic to rare-metal mining alters the EIA classification and could imply different environmental risk profiles (pollutant types, ecological impact pathways) versus the original EIA. Separately, the project’s tailings storage safety production permit may need extension: Credit China records show the tailings permit was approved on 1 Apr 2025, valid until 14 Jan 2027.

The Colombian Geological Survey said in a preliminary report a 6.7-magnitude quake occurred at 07:34 local time on Aug. 10. The epicenter was near Chocó department and the focal depth was 82 km. Strong shaking was reported in the capital Bogotá.
