An official said Thailand plans to warn the Trump administration that high US
tariffs could force Bangkok to scale back military cooperation, including Cobra
Gold — Southeast Asia’s largest annual multinational exercise. Thailand will
include the position in a proposal when it resumes reciprocal trade talks later
this month. The official said the clause will be broadly worded but that, if
higher tariffs inflict material economic harm, Thailand could reconsider
participation in joint military activities.
