Ubay Abdi, former executive director of the Bisan Center for Research and
Development, said recent escalation in Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians
appears backed by officials and is closely tied to the end‑October Israeli
election. He said politicians in the current government are relaxing constraints
on settlers and at times encouraging large-scale attacks to secure votes;
settlers, fearing a post‑October cabinet will be less tolerant, are accelerating
efforts aimed at displacing Palestinians from their homes. Abdi added that
through government policy and support for settler militias Israel has long
sought to drive Palestinians off their land and render them refugees.
