Mainland A-shares strengthened into midday; the ChiNext index rose 1.73%,
reclaiming the 3,600 level intraday, the Shenzhen Composite Index gained 1.25%
and the Shanghai Composite added 0.32%. Turnover on both bourses exceeded CNY1.3
trillion and about 3,500 stocks advanced. Compute-hardware-related sectors led
gains — optical fiber, CPO, semiconductors, lithography equipment and
communications gear; cinema chains remained active and brain-computer-interface
names spiked before midday. Oil and gas extraction and coal sectors opened weak
and slid further, while livestock farming pulled back.
