Greenland authorities have urgently halted a US company's planned oil exploration in eastern Greenland. Officials say a partner of US energy firm Greenland Energy shipped drilling equipment to the island without local permits and intended to begin drilling this autumn. Greenland's Ministry of Mineral Resources said the required permits cannot be ready before next year and issued a strong warning that similar actions must not recur.

Market sources say the Bank of Japan may raise interest rates in September or October.
