On the 14th, Iran deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on social media
that oil pollution off Qeshm Island was the result of foreign military
aggression. He said the damage to the Persian Gulf coastline underscores the
need for Iran, as a littoral state, to establish and implement a Strait of
Hormuz management mechanism. Iranian authorities earlier reported oil had
reached Qeshm’s vulnerable mangroves and spread along the island’s southern
coast.
