reflect former President Trump’s aesthetic preferences, the Washington Post
reports. Proposed changes include relocating the carriers’ multi‑level island
command center to the ship’s midsection. Officials say the alteration could cost
billions of dollars, exacerbate existing construction delays and forfeit three
operational advantages: increased deck parking capacity, shorter intervals
between catapult launches, and reduced turbulence on landings. The moves remain
under study and could extend build timelines as the conflict with Iran has
pushed carrier demand higher.
