The Ministry of Ecology and Environment, jointly with the Ministry of Industry
and Information Technology, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Natural
Resources, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Affairs, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate
issued a notice to strengthen prevention of industrial and other wastewater
pollution risks and to safeguard agricultural irrigation water safety. The
notice directs upgrades and retrofits of centralized wastewater treatment
facilities in industrial parks bordering farmland; inspections and remediation
of industrial and livestock‑farming water‑related problems; and requires
localities to revise local pollutant discharge standards and tighten emission
controls where industrial discharge of characteristic pollutants could threaten
downstream irrigation water safety.
