U.S. ambassador to Argentina Peter Lamelas on the 15th denied the U.S.
government had changed its position on the Malvinas (Falklands) sovereignty
dispute. In an interview with Argentine broadcaster TN he said the U.S. remains
"neutral" in the dispute and "that has not changed." Media reports said a leaked
U.S. Defense Department email in April indicated President Trump was considering
no longer backing the U.K.'s position on the islands. Lamelas said he had heard
of the "internal email" but was not aware of its contents.
