China’s Central Meteorological Observatory said at 12:34 on Aug. 19 that Typhoon
No.18, Shadol, formed in the northwest Pacific. At 11:00 the centre was at
8.2°N, 153.9°E, about 1,160 km southeast of Guam. Maximum winds near the centre
were 18 m/s, central pressure 998 hPa, with a radius of gale-force (≥7) winds of
100–200 km. Shadol is moving NNW at 15–20 km/h, expected to strengthen and track
toward waters east of the Ryukyu Islands; no impact on Chinese waters is
expected over the next five days.
