Aug. 20, 2026 — Chinese Politburo member and Central Foreign Affairs Office
director Wang Yi met South Korea national security adviser Wei Seong-ro in Seoul
to exchange views on regional security. Wang restated China’s principled
position on the peninsula, warned against Japanese right‑wing moves he said risk
reviving militarism, and said resolving Korea‑peninsula tensions requires
removing their root causes and pushing the United States to abandon its hostile
policy toward North Korea. He urged steps to restart dialogue and rebuild mutual
trust, and said China welcomes a move toward peaceful coexistence between the
two Koreas and an eventual conversion of the armistice into a peace mechanism
for long‑term stability.
