NAHB and Wells Fargo data show Q2 median-priced U.S. home at $410,700, with
monthly mortgage payments equal to 34% of a typical household's income, up from
32% in Q1 and reversing part of the improvement since early 2025. The groups
said higher borrowing costs linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict lifted rates across
the economy; the 30-year fixed mortgage rate climbed to about 6.8%, near a
one-year high. NAHB also reported the median new-home price rose 2% in the
quarter, adding to affordability pressure.
