President Trump said U.S. government debt topping $40 trillion is a 35-year
problem and its remedy is economic growth, which he called "very strong" and
capable of "easily" resolving the issue. Asked whether he asked Treasury
Secretary Bessent to intervene in the bond market, Trump said "absolutely not,"
adding Bessent is "very capable," that it was Bessent's decision to act, and
that he has "good instincts on bonds and rates."
