Canada's prime minister Carney said Trump 'misread the situation' and that an escalation of tariffs has put Canada and the United States in a 'state of war' on trade.

On Aug. 22 Prime Minister Carney said Canada will impose matching retaliatory tariffs after the U.S. levied 50% duties on $20 bln of Canadian goods; Canada’s counter-tariffs take effect Sept. 8. The premiers of Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec publicly backed the measures — Ontario’s Doug Ford urged provincial unity to “use all means” to retaliate, and B.C.’s David Eby called the U.S. government untrustworthy and said Canada must confront the “bully.”

Sources say NVIDIA has notified some customers that prices for servers using its AI chips will in most cases increase by more than 15%, effective early next year. Affected systems include models built around flagship Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chips; exact increases will depend on chip generation and memory configuration. Server makers that produce equipment for large data-center operators such as Microsoft, Google and Oracle have been informed, and the communications have not been made public.
