Canada's ambassador to the United States Mark Wiseman said talks between the two
countries collapsed on the evening of the 22nd because multiple issues remained
unresolved, notably discrepancies between the draft written text and what Canada
believed had been agreed. Wiseman told reporters on the 23rd the breakdown was
not due to a single issue. The collapse has already prompted a new round of
tariff measures and could further escalate the Canada–US trade dispute.
