U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said on the 24th he approved formally revoking
Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Rubio said the Syrian
transitional government has taken significant counterterrorism steps and that
delisting removes the final major barrier to private-sector investment,
facilitating Syria’s economic recovery and reintegration into the global
economy. The Syrian transitional government welcomed the decision. Rubio also
announced removal of the Sham Liberation Army from the U.S. list of designated
terrorist organizations.
