On the 25th, Oman's foreign minister Badr, visiting Tehran, said Oman and Iran
expect to announce shortly specific arrangements for a temporary Strait of
Hormuz maritime corridor and measures to restore safe navigation. He wrote that
he held a "constructive dialogue" with Iran's foreign minister and said
discussions on future management and a permanent solution will continue at a
later stage under Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Badr
added Oman and Iran will consult regional partners to promote peace,
cooperation, regional stability and freedom of navigation. Earlier on the same
day Iran and Oman issued a joint statement proposing a jointly agreed secure
maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz.
