Ho Chi Minh City plans to begin phasing in restrictions on petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles from mid-2027, launching a low-emission zone pilot in the central core and the new Thu Thiem district (about 930 hectares) from July 2027. After a two-year trial the zone would expand to within the city’s second ring road in early 2029. The timetable is delayed from an earlier plan that targeted implementation from early 2026. Heavy trucks and sleeper buses are already subject to time-based restrictions entering the city centre.
