Bank of Japan deputy governor HIMINO said on Thursday that timely rate hikes
would help prevent a sharp rise in inflation and avoid being forced into abrupt
tightening later. He warned that if core inflation were to deviate and exceed
the BOJ’s 2% target it would harm the economy, and said policymakers should pay
greater attention to upside price risks than in the past. HIMINO added that
every monetary policy meeting should start from this perspective and include
thorough discussion.
