Typhoon Shadell (the 18th storm this year) was centered about 320 km east of
Wenzhou at 17:00 on Aug 27 with maximum winds near the center of force 14
(strong typhoon). It is moving west-southwest at 10–15 km/h with little change
in intensity and is forecast to approach the Zhejiang coast and make landfall
between Cangnan and Jiaojiang from early morning to afternoon on Aug 28.
Landfall coincides with astronomical high tide and is expected to bring severe
wind, rain, waves and storm surge. Zhejiang Meteorological Bureau has issued an
emergency typhoon warning. Under the provincial contingency plan, Zhejiang’s
flood and typhoon emergency command raised the response to Level I at 20:00 on
Aug 27.
