Senator Mark Kelly said Trump is struggling to find an exit from the conflict
with Iran and that Americans are already paying through higher gasoline and food
prices. Kelly said Trump’s options are limited: deploy ground forces — which
could cost thousands of American lives — withdraw entirely, or apply economic
pressure while working to rebuild ties with European allies. He said US-EU
relations have been weakened over the past 18 months and called the situation a
crisis of Trump’s own making. Kelly added that bombing operations causing
civilian Iranian deaths are “not a good idea” and that economic measures
combined with alliance rebuilding are preferable to military escalation or a
ground invasion.
