Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force said on the 28th it has dismissed 24-year-old Third Lieutenant Murata Akihiro after he was prosecuted on charges including illegal entry. Murata, assigned to the Ebino garrison in Miyazaki Prefecture, scaled a wall with a knife and forced his way into China’s embassy in Japan on March 24, threatened to kill Chinese diplomatic staff and was arrested.

OpenAI has appointed Sandhya Devanathan, a senior executive from Meta Platforms (META.O), to lead its Southeast Asia and Australia business to capture growth across markets of more than 600 million people. Devanathan will be OpenAI’s top regional official, based in Singapore and reporting to APAC managing director Kiran Mani, responsible for consumer user growth, enterprise adoption and partnerships, operations and regulatory engagement. She will take up the newly created role in October. Devanathan said on LinkedIn she is leaving Meta; an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the appointment.

ZELENSKIY said Russia, unable to escort merchant vessels and shadow fleets into certain ports, is considering arming civilian ships with light weapons, electronic warfare equipment and military personnel. He said Ukraine will prepare corresponding countermeasures to Russia's militarization of shipping.
