The CFTC ordered former White House teleprompter operator Gabriel Perez to pay $172,539 after using advance access to President Trump’s speech text to trade on prediction market Kalshi. Under a settlement Perez must disgorge $107,539.02 in illicit gains, pay a $65,000 civil penalty, accept a three-year trading ban and agree to cease violations of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC rules. Under a settlement Perez must disgorge $107,539.02 in illicit gains, pay a $65,000 civil penalty, accept a three-year trading ban and agree to cease violations of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC rules. The agency said Perez traded 'Trump mentions' event contracts on Kalshi while employed at the White House from December 2025 through February 2026; those contracts settle based on whether the president uses specified words or phrases in speeches.
