Shenzhen retailers report a wave of PC price increases ahead of the school
season. HP plans a 15% increase on Aug. 28 and another rise on Sept. 1;
cumulative increases through Aug. 28 are about 20%. Lenovo stores say they have
received notices to raise prices on Sept. 1. Asus staff expect post-Sept. 1
hikes of at least 500 yuan. Store employees cite upstream chip cost inflation as
the primary driver. Low-end models are seeing the largest increases while
mid-to-high-end models rise more modestly; used-PC market prices are rising in
step.
