Somalia’s defence ministry said on Aug 29 a joint Somali-Turkish naval operation freed the cargo vessel Latufu, seized on Aug 17 in northeast Somali waters. The 10-day operation destroyed four pirate boats, killed 14 pirates and forced the remainder to abandon the ship, and was carried out under a Somalia-Turkey defence cooperation agreement.

Ukraine's Kyiv regional governor Serhiy Tkachenko said on the 29th a Russian strike hit a warehouse in Bucha district, killing 37. Rescue teams and authorities remain on site. Tkachenko said Russian forces carried out sustained strikes on Kyiv oblast on the 27th–28th targeting residential buildings, warehouses and vehicles; the warehouse explosion sparked a fire that spread to nearby apartment blocks, causing further casualties.
