He added the diesel increase will benefit roughly 500,000 users. The move, aimed at easing consumer cost pressures and shoring up political support after recent state election defeats for Pakatan Harapan, reverses cuts made earlier this year when Middle East-driven energy price spikes increased subsidy burdens. Anwar did not disclose the incremental fiscal cost; the government has already incurred about 40 billion ringgit (roughly $9.9 bln) in subsidy spending so far this year. Malaysia must hold a national election by early 2028.
