On Aug. 25, China’s National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) held two
roundtable consultations to gather local insurer and hospital feedback ahead of
the planned release of the case-based payment (DRG) 3.0 grouping scheme. The
meetings sought proposals to refine the special-case negotiation mechanism,
aiming to enable dynamic adjustment of DRG groupings and streamline
implementation. Participants urged stronger oversight, process optimization and
efficiency gains, and said the special-case mechanism has helped allay hospital
reluctance to admit complex or critical patients and supported clinical uptake
of new drugs and technologies.
