Extreme weather forced five of six Mediterranean desalination plants to halt
operations on Aug. 31 due to turbid seawater, the Israel Water Authority and
local media said. The outages disrupted water supply nationwide; the authority
ordered reduced freshwater deliveries to southern agriculture and suspended
agricultural water in parts of the south. Jerusalem reported multiple
neighborhood outages; authorities arranged alternative deliveries and public
water points. Tel Aviv restricted park irrigation, beach showers and public tap
usage.
