ANTHROPIC has signed a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with NVIDIA-backed
cloud provider Lambda, with NVIDIA holding data-center leases that feed capacity
into the arrangement, the Wall Street Journal reports. NVIDIA also struck a deal
weeks ago with Hut 8 to secure compute capacity at the site; Lambda will run on
Hut 8’s under-development data center using chips purchased from NVIDIA, which
is also a Lambda investor. The pact lets Lambda supply ANTHROPIC capacity
without buying data-center space; it is unclear how much Lambda must pay NVIDIA
for access. ANTHROPIC faced compute shortages earlier this year and has been
actively locking cloud capacity deals.
