A Wall Street Journal survey of 13 economists shows a median forecast for South
Korea's August CPI at +3.3% YoY, up from July's 2.8%; MoM expected +0.4%.
Deutsche Bank analysts say elevated cost pressures continue to pass through to
consumer prices and improving incomes are adding demand-side inflationary
pressure. The Bank of Korea attributes part of August's acceleration to base
effects after telecom fee discounts a year earlier lowered the comparison. South
Korea's August CPI is due Wednesday.
