SB Energy, backed by SoftBank Group and OpenAI, has filed for a US IPO,
positioning itself to monetize rising data‑center electricity demand. Regulatory
filings show 1H2026 revenue of $139m versus $83m a year earlier, and a net loss
of $3.2bn in 1H2026 versus a $216m loss in the prior-year period. The company
owns solar and battery storage assets and is developing a 9.2 GW natural‑gas
plant in Ohio intended to supply an AI data center as it pivots toward digital
infrastructure. OpenAI and SoftBank have each agreed to invest $500m in SB
Energy to build and operate a 1.2 GW OpenAI data center in Texas; Ares
Management is also an investor.
