Vice Finance Minister Liao Min led a delegation and spoke at the U.S.-hosted G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina on Aug. 31–Sept. 1, 2026. Liao said the global economy faces multiple challenges and urged genuine multilateralism and stronger macroeconomic policy coordination to support firmer global growth. He called for maintaining free trade and policy settings that facilitate cross-border trade and capital flows, highlighted that AI is reshaping economic models and urged cooperation to close the digital-intelligence gap and advance sustainable development, and said G20 members should take a comprehensive, objective and balanced view of global imbalances while addressing developing-country debt fundamentally through development-led measures.
