The Ministry of Natural Resources' Second Institute of Oceanography conducted a
marine geophysical survey in China's waters east of Taiwan island from Aug.
10–31. Using multibeam bathymetry, multi-channel seismic, ocean‑bottom
seismometers (OBS), gravity and magnetic surveys, teams collected seabed
topography, sedimentary stratigraphy, deep geological-structure and
geophysical-field data. Authorities say the dataset will support geological
research on seabed sedimentation, tectonics and deep crustal evolution and
provide a scientific basis for comprehensive management of the jurisdictional
sea area.
