David Petraeus, former CENTCOM commander and ex-CIA director who is currently an
Army general, said the Pentagon has failed to develop a strategy to fully
exploit the US technological advantage, eroding an edge it otherwise holds.
Speaking in the House of Lords in London, he said the US innovation ecosystem
remains the world’s most dynamic but questioned whether the military is
transforming fast enough to harness those innovations. He added that, despite
overwhelming advanced weaponry, the US has not forced Iran to accept its terms
and has not produced the “revolutionary new warfighting concept” needed to
exploit current technologies; the Iran conflict’s renewed regional exchanges, he
said, expose limits to US military advantage when objectives are unclear.
