Los Angeles Unified School District, the U.S. second-largest public school
system, will prohibit all students from using generative AI this academic year,
district officials said at a committee meeting Wednesday. New York City public
schools, the nation’s largest district, on Wednesday announced a one-year pause
on generative-AI tools for students prior to high school. LAUSD board members
had set age-based screen-time limits in June; district officials this week
clarified the ban applies regardless of student age and said restrictions on
content and platforms have been tightened.
