Analyst Ben Casselman said in U.S. August nonfarm payrolls data the prime-age
(25–54) labor force participation rate, after rising last year to a 20-year
high, fell sharply in June. The initial drop looked like an outlier, but the
absence of a rebound in July and August suggests the decline may be a real
trend. The rate remains above pre-pandemic levels but is noticeably less strong
than before.
