On the 4th the U.S. State Department said it approved sales of military
equipment to Saudi Arabia and Oman valued at about USD 5.75 bln and USD 188 mln,
respectively. The Saudi package includes 5,004 500‑lb bombs, 5,000 2,000‑lb
bombs and associated guidance kits, estimated at USD 5.0 bln, plus 60 engines
for use in M1 Abrams main battle tanks, estimated at USD 750 mln. The State
Department also approved F‑16 support services and related equipment for Oman.
U.S. media report the sales still require congressional approval.
