Former U.S. diplomat Joey Hood said the Trump administration’s sanctions
campaign against Iran is intended to build pressure over months rather than
produce immediate effects, noting Treasury measures often take months to bite.
Hood said U.S. diplomats are actively warning companies and governments about
dealing with Iran and that Washington needs time to implement coercive measures.
He contrasted that timeline with military actions in the Gulf, which he said can
be executed in minutes, and described U.S. policy as long-term financial,
monetary and material sanctions on Iran, supplemented by military measures
intended to weaken the Iranian economy.
