Iran parliament speaker Ghalibaf said Iran’s oil and gas production chain in the area is widely distributed, easily accessible and lacks protection, leaving U.S. oil and gas firms operating in the waters and facilities similarly exposed. He warned that attacks on Iranian assets would be met with strikes on U.S. assets, saying Iran has already demonstrated this and pointing to bases that are no longer operational.

Iran foreign ministry spokesman Baghaei told a routine press briefing on Sept. 7 that, responding to U.S. Vice President Vance’s Sept. 3 remark that 'the U.S. and Iran are not at war,' the situation 'is not a war' but 'open U.S. aggression.' Vance had said he acknowledged escalations in some areas but would not call it 'war' and that there was no sustained firefight at the time.
